Hungry? Now What?

Here is a step-by-step process to help you understand your body's dietary needs and cravings.

Step #1: Hungry?

  • YES - What do I want? What does my body need? Eat something and enjoy it!!
  • NO - What do I need?
    • comfort
    • relaxation
    • sleep
    • stress release
    • escape
    • other
    • don't know
  • If you're not hungry and want to eat anyway, go to Step # 2.

Step #2: What do I want to eat?

  • Something healthy? Have that choice available, but don't force yourself to make this your choice
  • Something satisfying?

Step #3: Eat!!

  1. Take a portion to a comfortable place.
  2. Put the container away.
  3. Center yourself (take a few deep breathes and focus on the food you are eating).
  4. Enjoy your eating experience.

 

Step #4: How do you feel?

  • Satisfied - good for you!
  • Still unsettled (go to Step #1)
  • Guilty and frustrated (go to Step #5)

Step #5: Get on with your life.
